EXHIBITION LAB

12 Monate Rhythmus · „Learning by Exhibition“

Rather than sporadic presentations, an ongoing annual curriculum of 11 autonomous exhibitions is launched from February through December 2027, opening on the first Friday of each month (January as staging & setup phase)—conceived, curated, and produced by the next generation of contemporary practitioners.
Continuous annual cycle from January to December with 4-week exhibition runs.
Participants direct curation, production, spatial installation, and communication.
GEZWANZIG delivers turnkey space, infrastructure, quality control, and reach.

Core Concept & Vision
The GEZWANZIG Exhibition Lab transforms the Innsbruck space into a continuous, practice-based testing ground for emerging contemporary positions. Participants are invited to realize their artistic visions within a professional gallery setting.
The explicit objective of the curriculum is not merely showcasing art in a physical space, but educating young talents through the complete lifecycle, craftsmanship, and economic reality of professional gallery operations—from the initial spark of an idea to deinstallation and room handover.
Inaugural Partner: GEZWANZIG × Roman Pfeffer
As the inaugural pilot partner for the program, GEZWANZIG is planning a close collaboration with acclaimed artist and academy professor Roman Pfeffer. Together with a class or group of university students, a bespoke exhibition project tailored specifically for the Innsbruck location will be conceived.
Not a Conventional “Student Show”
The ambition is explicitly not a simple end-of-term presentation, but a fully-fledged, autonomous curatorial statement developed specifically for the spatial qualities of GEZWANZIG Innsbruck. Over time, the program will expand to further fine arts universities, academies, professors, and independent guest curators.
12-Month Cadence · „Learning by Exhibition“
The lab follows a reliable, rigorous annual rhythm: Every first Friday of the month, a new exhibition opens. Each exhibition remains on public view for approximately four weeks. In between runs, a coordinated transition cycle handles deinstallation, logistics, condition checks, and new installation.
Participant Autonomy & Real-World Logistics
The emerging artists and academy classes act as fully autonomous exhibition makers, taking hands-on responsibility for every operational aspect:
Curation & Production
- Conceptualization, theme development, and exhibition title
- Curatorial selection of artworks and spatial dramaturgy
- Artwork production, finishing, and archival art packing
- Hanging, spatial installation, and professional spotlighting
- Timely deinstallation and clean handover of the gallery
Communication & Events
- Drafting curatorial essay, press statement, and biographies
- Compiling complete checklists with artwork dimensions & prices
- Delivering high-resolution photography and social media assets
- Designing invitations in line with GEZWANZIG branding
- Organizing the opening reception (introductory speech, hospitality, documentation)
Key Feature: Travel is Part of the Curriculum
Participants organize their journey and artwork shipping independently (e.g. Vienna / University campus → Innsbruck → Installation → Vernissage → Deinstallation → Return transport). Navigating real logistical and financial requirements away from their home institution is a deliberate cornerstone of the learning experience.
