Kata Oelschlägel
Kata Oelschlägel arbeitet mit Performance, Video, Fotografie und skulpturaler Form. Ihre Harzskulpturen entstehen aus Abdrücken von Skelettstrukturen und bilden transparente Körperarchitekturen, in denen Bewegung, Schwerkraft und Materialspannung sichtbar werden. Die Arbeit mit Faden, Stoff und Blut erweitert diesen formalen Prozess um eine körperbezogene Dimension: der Schnitt wird zur Linie, der Eingriff zum zeichnerischen Akt. Textile Techniken und performative Gesten verschränken sich zu einem Untersuchungsfeld über Körper, Verletzbarkeit und Transformation.
Kata Oelschlägel studierte Europäische Ethnologie und Kunstgeschichte an der Universität Wien und war Teil der TransArts-Klasse an der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien. Sie zeigte Einzelausstellungen wie „ 3 %“ in der Galerie Hollerei und „A Gentle Cut“ in der Barvinskyi Art Gallery. In der Ausstellung „Nitsch. A Homage by… From Pain Comes Pain, Then Laughter“ der Nitsch Foundation Wien führte sie gemeinsam mit Joseph Sakoilsky eine performative Waschaktion mit schwarzer Farbe durch. Sie realisierte Interventionen wie „Hangman“ am Dach der Albertina, bei der ein Skelett aus Harz herabhing und mediale Aufmerksamkeit erregte. Weitere Ausstellungsbeteiligungen umfassen Parallel Vienna, „Night in the Museum“ im Bank Austria Kunstforum, „Hier und Heute“ im WUK sowie „Ephemeral Permanence“ im Vienna Collectors Club.

Kata Oelschlägel works with performance, video, photography, and sculptural form. Her resin sculptures are created from impressions of skeletal structures and form transparent bodily architectures in which movement, gravity, and material tension become visible. Working with thread, fabric, and blood adds a body-related dimension to this formal process: the cut becomes a line, the intervention an act of drawing. Textile techniques and performative gestures intertwine to form a field of inquiry into the body, vulnerability, and transformation.
Kata Oelschlägel studied European ethnology and art history at the University of Vienna and was part of the TransArts class at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. She has had solo exhibitions such as “3%” at the Hollerei Gallery and “A Gentle Cut” at the Barvinskyi Art Gallery. In the exhibition “Nitsch. A Homage by… From Pain Comes Pain, Then Laughter” at the Nitsch Foundation Vienna, she performed a performative washing action with black paint together with Joseph Sakoilsky. She realized interventions such as “Hangman” on the roof of the Albertina, in which a resin skeleton hung down and attracted media attention. Other exhibition participations include Parallel Vienna, “Night in the Museum” at the Bank Austria Kunstforum, “Hier und Heute” at the WUK, and “Ephemeral Permanence” at the Vienna Collectors Club.
