Geboren 1971 in Wels, lebt und arbeitet in Wien. Arnold Reinthaler studierte Bildhauerei an der Kunstuniversität Linz, an der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien (Diplom bei Bruno Gironcoli) und promovierte mit einer kulturwissenschaftlichen Dissertation bei Thomas Macho (über die Zirkulation des Begriffs „nomadisch” im Kunstkontext).
Reinthaler befragt in seinen Arbeiten Systeme der Zeitmessung und stellt dabei das subjektive Handeln in den Mittelpunkt lang andauernder Arbeitsprozesse, die vorwiegend in Stein, Papier und Lichtmedien übersetzt werden. Er modelliert am Begriff „Zeitlichkeit”, indem er etwa in ein geradezu anachronistisches Medium wie Granit flüchtige Schriftzeichen graviert, oder laufend mit Techniken der selbstvermessung Modelle des „Zeitigens” erprobt.
Born in Wels in 1971, lives and works in Vienna. Arnold Reinthaler studied sculpture at the University of Art and Design Linz and at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (diploma under Bruno Gironcoli) and earned his doctorate with a dissertation in cultural studies under Thomas Macho (on the circulation of the term “nomadic” in the context of art).
In his work, Reinthaler questions systems of time measurement, placing subjective action at the center of long-term work processes that are predominantly translated into stone, paper, and light media. He models the concept of “temporality” by, for example, engraving fleeting characters into an almost anachronistic medium such as granite, or by continuously testing models of “temporality” using self-measurement techniques.
